Nokia Lumia 625 officially announced, brings 4.7-inch display to Windows Phone
After multiple leaks in the last 24 hours, Nokia has officially unveiled the Lumia 625, which is a mid-range Windows Phone smartphone with a 4.7-inch display. Catching up on the phablet fad, it is a smart strategy from Nokia to launch its biggest display smartphone in the mid-end rather than gunning for the high-end where competition is intense and it would be at a disadvantage with Windows Phone platform.
Talking about core specs, the Lumia 625 does not set the scene on fire with mediocre hardware. We are talking about a WVGA display, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage along with a microSD card slot. While the rest of the specs are fine, what gets our goat is the paltry 512MB of RAM, which means certain apps might not be compatible. Then there is a 5-megapixel camera on the rear and a customary VGA camera on the front. It has FM radio too, which is a much sought-after feature in India.
The Lumia 625 comes in a variety of colors – red, green, yellow, black and white – and features removable shells, like in most mid-end Lumia smartphones. It has a 2,000mAh battery. Nokia says that the Lumia 625 will be available for Euro 220 (approximately Rs 17,300) in the third quarter of the year.
Nokia unveils new Coloud Boom, Knock and Pop affordable headsets
Nokia has unveiled new headsets – Boom, Knock and Pop – that have been made by Zound Industries, which was behind headphones by legendary guitar amplifier company Marshall. All the new headsets are a part of a new sub brand called Coloud.
The Boom headphones are noise cancelling closed back headphones and have massive ear cans to suspend one’s ears in just the sound. They are available in typical Nokia colours. There is no word if the noise cancellation is active or passive. It’s more likely that it’s passive considering Nokia talks about its smart closed construction rather than talk about any active circuitry.
The Knock is also similarly styled to the Boom headphones. They are also closed back, but don’t come with noise cancellation. The Pop is an in-ear alternative for people who want something more portable. The package also contains three different sized buds so that they fit easily for any user.
Nokia is using the Zound Lasso tangle free cable in all the headphones so that one does not need to worry about those irritating wire tangles. All the products will come with cable controls and integrated microphones. Nokia says that these headphones will be available from September onwards 27 Euros (Rs 2,125), 22 Euros (Rs 1,730) and 18 Euros (Rs 1,417).
