Android 4.2 Jelly Bean: Gesture Typing, Photo Sphere Camera, Multiple Users Support Features, Availability in India

Google the search engine giant announced the incremental update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OSon October 29 in its blog post along with the launch of Nexus devices. Finally, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean (not Key Lime Pie, as rumored earlier) has arrived.Android 4.2, a sweeter version of Jelly Bean is packed with a galore of new features. There are few questions that are left unanswered for now – What devices will receive the Android 4.2 update? When will it be rolled out? However, here are the new features for the consumers to relish.
Photo Sphere Camera
A new way to capture panorama photos, Photo Sphere creates huge multi-shot scrollable images very similar to those found in Google Maps Street View. Users can create 360 degreepanoramic photos and share them across the social networks including Google+ easily.
Gesture Typing with Smart Keyboard
Gesture Typing, which is similar to Swype enables users to type messages easier as they can simply glide the fingers over the letters to type a word. The spaces will be added automatically. The smart keyboard is capable of anticipating and predicting the next world, thereby letting users to finish the sentences by selecting suggested words.
Moreover, the dictionaries are quite powerful and relevant with enhanced tect – speech conversion support, better voice typing and offline support.
Wireless Display
Fans of big-screen browsing have good news as Android 4.2 brings support for Miracast wireless displays, thereby, letting users to watch movies, play games, browse or whatever on their HDTV wirelessly.
Daydream
Daydream mode is basically a screensaver mode with which the users of Android 4.2 devices can tweak the settings to display photos, get news from Google Currents and more while the device is idle or docked.
Notifications
The feature of expandable and contractible notifications was introduced with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and now it is improved to let users interact with apps right from the notification pane.
Earlier, users were able to view the notifications by expanding them to an extent, but now they can perform actions on them by simply tapping on the notifications.
Quick Settings
Speaking of settings, as rumored Android 4.2 will have a quick settings section with two pull downs – one for notification bar and one for quick settings panel. Quick settings menu will overlap with the main notifications menu, letting users to switch between user accounts, toggle Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, adjust brightness, go into airplane mode and more.
Multiple User Accounts
The ability to add multiple user accounts will let consumers create multiple accounts for each person who is using the device. This way, every user will have a name, photo, access to all the features including Google Play Store and their own backgrounds, homescreens and widgets. To access a different user account, the user has simply go to the lockscreen and not shut the device off. However, this interesting feature is available only for tablets and it soon make its way into smartphones as well.
Google Now
The next new spectacular feature in Jelly Bean is Google Now. When activated, this feature will deliver the users right information at the right time automatically.
For example, if the user says, “traffic,” it will look at the user’s usual commute to work and show the alternative routes if there is a lot of traffic. It will also give updates on the scores of the user’s favorite sports teams automatically, and provide information on the status of flights, if traveling.
With the Android 4.2, Google Now is revamped and it comes with improved interactions.
Android 4.2 Availability in India
Well, it is clear that Android 4.2 will reach the Indian users, only when the newly launched Nexus devices including Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 devices will hit the retail stores of the market, that is reportedly confirmed to be around the end of November. Also the the Nexus 7 will be upgraded to 4.2 around the same time.
As far as the other Android devices in the market is concerned, the software giant has Google has yet to release official rollout plans for the devices. Observing the current market, the Google is still in a process of rolling out Android Jelly Bean 4.1 update to the consumers in the Indian market for many devices. Hence, upgrade timing and availability of Android 4.2 will be decided in few months, depending on each manufacturer and no specifics have been announced so far
