Apple held a special media event at the California Theatre in San Jose on October 23 to debut its new product lineup for 2012. The Cupertino-based company announced a lot of new hardware at the media event and one of the first devices was the new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display.
MacBook Pro is of course a commercial success amongst Apple’s lineup of computers, hence the 13 inch variant received a much needed upgrade – Retina Display feature.
Commenting at the launch, Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing was quoted saying “The 13-inch MacBook Pro is our most popular Mac, and today it gets completely reinvented with a new thin and light design, fast flash storage and a gorgeous Retina display. With vivid colors, razor sharp text and more pixels than anyone else’s 15 or 17-inch notebooks, the Retina display completely changes what you expect from a notebook.”
Key Specs
13.3 inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display features a 13.3 inch display with 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution, which is four times the number of pixels than the earlier version. Also, the MacBook Pro is 20% thinner than its predecessor measuring only 0.75 inch in thickness.
Further, it is equipped with a 2.5GHz Intel Core i5 processor, which can be upgraded to a 2.9GHz Intel Core i7 processor, Intel HD Graphics 4000, 8GB of 1600 MHz memory and up to 768GB of flash storage.
The 13 inch MacBook Pro with Retina display comes packed with a OS X Mountain Lion, FaceTime HD camera, dual microphones, improved speakers, three-stream 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and a MagSafe 2 power port. Moreover, the battery equipped in the device delivers a backup of up to 7 hours of Wi-Fi usage and a standby of up to 30 days.
Pricing & Availability
There will be two models of 13.3 inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display. One with a 2.5GHz dual-core Core i5 processor, 8GB of memory, and 128GB of flash storage is priced at Rs 114,900 in India whereas the other model with the same processor and memory configuration, but with 256GB of flash storage is priced at Rs 134,900. Apple also offers configuration options wherein consumers can upgrade to Core i7 processors and 768GB of flash storage.
