* A week ago there was rumor about the expected and rugged version of the Samsung Galaxy S4. Later that week, reportedly, the Wall Street Journal had added a few more other details about the phone, which is being called the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active.
* The so called rugged model, would obviously mean that the device would be water and dustproof.
* Sadly, reports stated that the Korean manufacturer prefer the rugged model to retain the look and feel of the regular Samsung Galaxy S4.
* The rugged version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 that is expected to be released water and dust proof, has just been through the GFX Benchmark site recently and reportedly some interesting information is said to have been revealed.
-According to the information from the site, first of all, the name of the phone would be the Samsung Galaxy S4 J Active.
* One model (SGH-I537) is believed to be heading for AT nd T in the states, while another model (GT-I9295) will be released in Europe.
It also said that the phone would be unveiled in a matter of weeks.
* This new rugged version of Samsung Galaxy S4 called Samsung Galaxy S4 J Active is reported to feature the identical Android 4.2.2. It is said to have TouchWiz running over Android and keep the FHD screen.
* The major difference (besides the water and dust proofing, of course) is that the rugged version of the new Android flagship model is expected to have a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus(MSM8960) processor tuned to 1.9GHz.
* There is a high chance for Samsung Galaxy S4 J Active to use this processor because most of the rugged phones use Snapdragon S4 instead of a Snapdragon 600 or an Exynos 5 Octa. Pricing of the device has not been revealed and it is unknown which markets will be receiving the rugged version of the flagship Android handset.
The specs are expected to be the same and the live pictures below confirm it - the device is running on a quad-core 1.9GHz processor with Adreno 320 GPU, which most definitely means a Snapdragon 600 chipset. The screen supposedly has the same size and resolution as the original Galaxy S4 - a 5.0-inch 1080p unit, though it's unclear if it's a Super AMOLED one or not. Strangely enough, the reported pixel density of the phone is 480ppi, so the display might actually be smaller.
Our tipster also confirmed to us that the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active has an 8MP rear camera, which is a downgrade from the 13MP sensor of the Galaxy S4.
Despite the similar specs, the Galaxy S4 Active looks nothing like the original. It comes in a metallic shell with bolts on the back, and there are also three hardware buttons below the screen. There is no official info on the Galaxy S4 Active yet, but as it turns out the handset has been showcased recently in Croatia, so an announcement is imminent.
